Request Inspections, Reviews or Report Fire Code Violations

Development Reviews

The Santa Fe County Fire Prevention Division is responsible for reviewing all new development within Santa Fe County to verify compliance with the 1997 Uniform Fire Code.  New development ranges from commercial projects to family property transfers and residential construction.

Inspectors review projects for emergency access requirements and water needs such as automatic fire suppression systems and/or water storage and hydrant systems and compliance with the 1997 Uniform Fire Code and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.

All projects should be submitted through the Santa Fe County Land Use Division located at 201 Grant Avenue. 

Plans should show access details such as: length and width of driveway; main access roads; turn around locations and specifications (if required);  bridges; ditch crossings; low water crossings, etc.

Fire Protection System Reviews

The Santa Fe County Fire Prevention Division conducts reviews for automatic fire suppression systems; alarm systems and water supply systems for compliance with the 1997 Uniform Fire Code, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.

Plans should be submitted through the Santa Fe County Land Use Division located at 102 Grant Avenue.

Business Inspections

The Santa Fe County Fire Prevention Division is required, by code, to perform annual fire inspections of businesses located in Santa Fe County such as stores, restaurants, hotels, large assembly facilities, and schools to verify compliance with the 1997 Uniform Fire Code and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. Home occupancy businesses that serve the public are also required to be inspected annually.

Report Fire Code Violations

All complaints, related to life safety and fire code will be assigned to the inspector for that area.  A site visit will be conducted and if a violation to the 1997 Uniform Fire Code or National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards is found, follow-up will be done with property owner.
