All permit passes are valid until all punches have been used. This includes the old solid waste 24-punch permits as well as the new 6- and 12-punch permits. Separate commercial permits have been eliminated. Small (< 15 cubic yards per load) commercial solid waste generators may use the new permits.

Per County Ordinance,  recycling of recyclable materials is required at Convenience Centers.

Trash and Recycling

Trash and Recycling Curbside Services Throughout the County

A number of private companies provide curbside trash and recycling collection service throughout the County for a fee. Bundled (trash with recycling) service is required with the County Solid Waste Collection District (Collection District Map). The County does not provide or offer curbside refuse or recyclable collection service.

Trash and Recycling at Convenience Centers

Santa Fe County operates seven drop-off Solid Waste Convenience Centers for the disposal of household trash and the collection of recyclable materials. 


Disposal of trash at Convenience Centers requires a punch or punches from a solid waste punch card.  Loads up to 5 cubic yards require one punch on the permit. Loads between 5 and 10 cubic yards: 2 punches. 10-15 cubic yards: 3 punches. Loads larger than 15 cubic yards are not accepted at County Convenience Centers. ReUse Area at the Eldorado Convenience Center

The ReUse area at the Eldorado Convenience Center is a space designated specifically to saving usable items from the landfill. Residents taking items to the ReUse Area will be instructed where to leave the items. Items will be available for "adoption" by other station patrons on a first-come first-served basis. Items not adopted in a reasonable time will be sent to the landfill.

Illegal Dumping

Santa Fe County Ordinance No. 2014-10 prohibits the dumping, accumulating, or scattering of solid waste.

To report illegal dumping or littering, please call the County at 505-992-3010 or the Solid Waste Compliance Officer at 505-629-2937. You may also call New Mexico Clean & Beautiful at 1-800-867-7666 .

Any person convicted of illegal dumping will be guilty of a crime. First time offenders maybe penalized with a fine up to $500 and/or 60 days in jail. Subsequent violations carry a penalty of up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. The improper or illegal disposal of hazardous waste carries a penalty of up to $5,000 and/or 90 days in jail.
