Ride Along

The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office allows and encourages interested citizens to ride along with a Deputy Sheriff while he/she performs his/her duties**.

If you are tired of just watching COPS on TV and would be interested in seeing what really happens, then all you need to do is ask -- you must be at least 18 years old.

You may download the Request to Ride Along Form and Waiver/Release Form or you may pick up these forms at the front desk of the Sheriff's Office.

Law Enforcement can be an exciting and rewarding occupation.

However, because Law Enforcement is inherently a dangerous business and there is always a possibility that you could be hurt while participating with Law Enforcement operations, the Sheriff's Office requires that you sign a Waiver and Release that absolves the County, Sheriff's Office and Deputies from Liability -- if you wish to participate, you must do so at your own risk.

You must read, understand and sign a Waiver and Release Form.

You will need to sign it in front of a witness (who may include anyone at the Sheriff's Office) and present it to the Deputy with whom you are riding or to the Shift Commander for the shift you will be riding.

** The availability to Ride-along on Patrol is up to the Deputies and at the discretion of the shift commander. Also, the duration of the Ride-along may be less than a whole shift.
